Diamond Guide

Choosing a diamond is a matter of origin, proportion and personal expression.

At Cornelia Webb, we work with both natural and lab-grown diamonds. Each stone is selected for its clarity, cut and origin, and how it relates to the form of the piece and the body.

This guide outlines the differences, along with how we approach sourcing and quality.

NATURAL & LAB-GROWN DIAMONDS

Both natural and lab-grown diamonds share the same physical and optical properties. They are composed of carbon and graded using the same standards.

The difference lies in how they are formed, and the choice ultimately comes down to personal preference.

Natural Diamonds

Natural diamonds are formed over time within the earth.

We work with responsibly sourced natural diamonds from Canada, selected through partners who prioritise traceability, working conditions and environmental responsibility.

Stones are chosen within carefully defined quality ranges, with a focus on cut, clarity and how the stone reflects light, ensuring a balanced presence within each design.

Lab-Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled environments using advanced technology that replicates the natural formation process.

We work with lab-grown diamonds produced using renewable energy where possible, selected for their quality and consistency. Our lab-grown stones are sourced through trusted partners in Dubai, where production is carried out under Swedish leadership with a focus on precision and quality.

For bespoke rings above 1 carat, we also offer diamonds created using carbon capture technology. These stones are produced from captured atmospheric carbon and are available on request as part of our bespoke service.

As with natural diamonds, each stone is evaluated based on how it interacts with the design it is set in.

QUALITY & GRADING

All diamonds above 0.30 carat are delivered with certification from GIA or IGI.

We work within carefully selected ranges that ensure a clear and balanced appearance:

Colour: F–H (near colourless)
Clarity: VS–SI

Within this, we primarily offer two options: Top Wesselton (TW VS) and Wesselton (W SI).

Both are selected to ensure that inclusions are not noticeable in everyday wear.

The difference is subtle, and often comes down to a preference for tone and price rather than visible quality.

Top Wesselton (TW VS)

Colour: F–G
Clarity: VS

A bright, near colourless diamond with very small inclusions.

To the eye, the stone appears clear and highly refined, with a crisp level of brilliance.

Wesselton (W SI)

Colour: H
Clarity: SI

Slightly warmer in tone, with small inclusions that are typically only visible under magnification.

To the eye, the diamond still appears clear, with a softer and more understated presence.

OUR APPROACH

For us, the value of a diamond is closely tied to its origin and the transparency of how it has been produced.

When choosing stones for pieces that often mark significant moments, it is important that their history reflects a considered and responsible approach.

Each diamond is selected in relation to the design — considering scale, setting and how it sits on the body.

Rather than maximising size, we prioritise balance. The aim is a ring that feels considered as a whole, not defined by a single element.

Carat & Proportion

Carat refers to the weight of a diamond, but not its visual presence.

Two stones of the same carat can appear different depending on cut and proportions.

For this reason, we group sizes to guide selection:

0.3 ct — subtle
0.5 ct — balanced
0.7 ct — more defined
0.9 ct and above — more pronounced

The right size depends on the design and how the ring sits on the hand.

Sourcing & Responsibility

We work with suppliers who meet established standards for environmental and social responsibility.

This includes:

Traceability where available

Responsible mining practices for natural diamonds

Use of renewable energy in lab-grown production where possible

We avoid absolute claims, as sourcing systems are complex and evolving. Instead, we focus on continuous selection and long-term partnerships.
